"It's still hard for me to wrap my head around that. It means a lot to me," he said in an interview.
The album 'Mandatory Fun' just made its debut on July 22 and since its release, it has been garnering a lot of attention and even topped the music chart.
In the past, he has made parodies of songs by Madonna called 'Like a Surgeon' to hits like 'Eat It', a culinary parody of Michael Jackson's 'Beat It'.
Yancovic has recently released eight new songs, one at a time every day since July 14. The first song he unveiled to the public was his parody of Pharell Williams' 'Happy' entitle 'Tacky' which also inspired fan videos.
The music video created for 'Tacky' was star-studded with several famous stars participating in its making including Jack Black, Eric Stonestreet and Margaret Cho. It was also partnered with websites like Nerdist.com and Funnyordie.com, a site owned by Will Ferrel, to help with the song's launching.
Like his past albums, 'Weird Al' Yancovic showed his fun side by making his 'version' of the popular radio songs. Among others, he has also released 'Word Crimes', a song that scolds people about their grammar, using Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines'. Finally, there's 'Foil' which he sang to the tune of Lorde's 'Royals'.
'Mandatory Fun' sold 104,000 copies on its debit week according to Nielsen SoundScan while the videos garnered more than 40 million views on YouTube.
The number of hits the videos got online surprised Yancovic, saying, "There was always the danger people would get tired of it, by the third day I was wondering if people would be going, 'Oh no, more Al,'."
The artist had been out of the music scene for quite a while and his biggest moments were arguably during the 80s and 90s when a lot of artists dominated mainstream music.
However, with the change in today's music, the parody singer had to adapt especially so that others, even those who aren't artists, can make their own parodies and post them online to go viral in just a click of a button.
The success of 'Mandatory Fun' is truly impressive despite the setbacks the artist had in the past.
