Gregory Wong and Michelle Chen are reportedly in negotiations to star in the fourth film of the franchise "A Moment of Romance."

According to the producer of the upcoming movie, Stephen Shiu, Jr., China 3D Entertainment has just acquired the rights for the movie. Wong will play Wah Dee, a gang member who abducts a young woman and demands a large amount of money from her family. However, the young woman, who will be portrayed by Michelle Chen, captures his heart and he helps her escape safely.

Wong was thrust into the spotlight after his stellar performance in the HKTV political drama series The Election. China 3D Entertainment then sealed a contract with the actor with the hopes of making him their biggest movie star.

Michelle Chen, on the other hand, got her big break in the blockbuster romantic movie, You Are the Apple of My Eye.

The original film, "A Moment of Romance," directed by Hong Kong film director Johnnie To, became the defining point of Hong Kong's action romance films. The movie focuses on the life of a gangster Wah Dee, previously portrayed by Andy Lau, who eventually finds himself falling in love with his hostage, Jo Jo, played by Jacklyn Wu.

Because of the film's overwhelming success, the movie had two sequels, which were released in 1993 and 1996.

The upcoming film's story share a similar theme with its prequels although it will be based on the recent event which involved the kidnapping of Queenie Law, a graphic designer and the granddaughter of the late and wealthy tycoon Law Ting Pong.

As for the other characters in the fourth movie in the franchise, Stephen plans to cast Adam Chen as the kidnapped woman's affluent father, Tommy Wong and David Siu as the kidnappers and Liu Kai Chi as the detective.

Because the story will be based on real-life events which involved Queenie, Stephen was asked if he was somehow worried about the film offending Queenie and her family.

"The focus of my film is the romance, and it will be an official installment of the A Moment of Romance series," he answered.

He explained that the kidnapping case is simply a side-story, which will only be used as a basis for the script and therefore does not think that it will affect either Queenie or her family.

There has been no word yet on who will direct the new A Moment of Romance movie but Stephen hopes that Herman Yau will be on board for the project as the director.
