Matthew Kohr, a police officer from North Carolina, is filing charges against Starbucks after suffering burn injuries from availing the shop's free coffee, according to US News.
The police officer narrated that the incident happened last 2012. At that time, coffee was freely given to police officers in uniform. The lid of his coffee cup popped and his beverage collapsed in his thighs. The officer claimed that he was made to wait for hours after he burned himself from the coffee.

Kohr testified in court last Wednesday that he immediately drove home to have the burn injury photographed by his wife prior to seeking medical care, as reported by the News and Observer.
He said in his testimony that he left Starbucks using his police car and used his truck from the police garage and drove home. Kohr ordered his wife to take pictures of his third-degree burns located on his inner thigh.
Kohr revealed that the incident caused severe emotional trauma on his part, he was eventually diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Doctors had to excise a part of his intestine to alleviate his gastrointestinal problems.
Kohr did not press charges at that time since 'it never really crossed his mind.' After three years since the incident, Kohr decided to file a complaint against the coffee company.
Tricia Derr, Starbuck's legal representative, emphasized that Kohr waited for more than two hours before he sought medical help from his injury.
"You didn't go to the emergency room. You didn't go to urgent care. You went to get your truck," said Derr, during the court hearing last Tuesday.
In Derr's opening statement, she elucidated that Kohr was negligent enough to overlook his injuries and it was not the third degree burn by hot coffee that exacerbated the officer's health but rather a pre-existing condition.
