The new project of Kickstarter is turning the smartphone into a drone as it is named as PhoneDrone.

The PhoneDrone, created by Idaho-based drone startup company xCraft, allows the smartphone to be an aerial camera, as reported by Yahoo News.

xCraft has already raised over $73,000 pledge and hoping to raise US$250,000 on Kickstarter. The site added that interested customer can get the base model of PhoneDrone for $250 while others can get the "sort of early bird" unit with a pledge of US$229 though shipping is expected to start in November.

According to Kickstarter, PhoneDrone allows the smartphone of the user take charge of running the drone and it is not just a device that take an aerial photo and videos but has a free app from the company that allows the device where to go, stream video feedback to another mobile, how high the device will fly and even follow the user like a bodyguard while walking.

The device can be used as a personal surveillance cam or personal camera man. It can also take a video and user can configure it as an extension of their smartphone.

Moreover, the PhoneDrone is easy to use and no drone experience is required to use it. The device does not need to be upgraded to be able to capture the best video possible as the phone is the camera.

In addition, the device feature control and video streaming as it can easily pair to another mobile device. Other features include a camera mirror, a built-in charger and Wi-Fi for pairing with other devices.

Specs wise, the PhoneDrone weights 14. 5 oz, having a dimensions of 7.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 inches (folded) and 11 x 14 x 2.8 inches (extended). It has a flight time from 20 to 25 minutes with a speed of 0-35 MPH.

The device is compatible with iOS and Android users. The models compatible for iOS include iPhone 4S, 5, 5C, 6 and 6 Plus while, on Android, the device compatible include Samsung Galaxy S II and newer.

Meanwhile, the marketers are planning to add a feature such as obstacle and control avoidance.
