According to a TIME report, when Miley Cyrus heard about a teenage fan from Lansing, Michigan being bullied by an adult for wearing a "Legalize Gay" t-shirt, the pop star gave the fan a personal phone call just to remind of her right to freedom of expression.

The pop star is now into helping young LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) people and Miley Cyrus has set up a non-profit foundation that supports LGBTQ and homeless youth called the Happy Hippie Foundation.

Cyrus also said she does not like to label herself as either gay or straight, despite saying that she has had experiences in relationships that were neither "heterosexual" nor "straight."

The pop star said that people should judge her by who she is and not who she is dating and continues to say that she is finally O.K. being single, describing her current self as "feminist." She continues to say that she believes her future does not really depend on having a partner, and thinks this attitude is a "new freedom for women" today.

Cyrus's passionate stand on social issues has resulted in a strong social media following that often want her advice on personal matters. That girl whom Cyrus called to empower her about wearing any t-shirt she wants had been a fan since Hanna Montana days (2006-2011). She was very happy to hear from Cyrus and became tearful when she learned Cyrus discussing her problem on social media.

Cyrus has been known to support LGBT rights for years and the creation of the Happy Hippie Foundation has given her a more concrete way of helping.

In 2012, the pop star's all out support for same-sex marriage got the ire from her conservative fans, who asked her why she was pro-gay when she is a Christian. In response, Cyrus wrote an essay for Glamour and said that true "Christianity is about love."  She then had a tattoo made that says "All love is equal."

Having a passionate stand on the legalization of same-sex marriage, Cyrus said that she thinks every American should enjoy the same liberties, rights, benefits, and securities that heterosexual couples have.
