Lampard's long speculated move to the Major League Soccer, a professional soccer league based in the United stated, was confirmed by the New York City F.C. at an appearance on Brooklyn's waterfront on Thursday morning. Lampard said that he almost joined the Los Angeles Galaxy last year after negotiations would have led him to leave his then club, Chelsea F.C.

"They basically opened the door for me to go at one point," Lampard said regarding his former club. "But because I played pretty well for a couple of months, they decided they wanted me to stay."
Lampard met with New York City F.C. in early spring after it became apparent that his stay at Chelsea would cease after the end of his contract.
"They basically opened the door for me to go at one point," Lampard said regarding his former club. "But because I played pretty well for a couple of months, they decided they wanted me to stay."
Before the national team of England even went to Brazil for 2014 World Cup, Lampard decided that New York would be his next home. Although he had offers on to remain in Europe, he was insistent on leaving for his new team.
"The quality of the league has improved," Lampard said. "I think we've seen that - the quality of the players coming in to play here, the quality of the homegrown players, as you've seen in the U.S. team at the World Cup. Top players want to play in good-quality leagues, and M.L.S. is a real option now, where five to 10 years ago it might have been seen slightly different."
Lampard, who played as Chelsea's midfielder since 2001, is the club's record holder with 90 assists, 147 goals and 429 appearances. He will be most probably be playing for other teams in this fall as his new club, New York City F.C., will not begin playing until March.
The midfielder was Chelsea's captain when it won the UEFA Champions League in 2012 and the captain of England's national team for their last game in the 2014 World Cup. He has appeared more than 100 times for his national team and in roughly 600 matches in the Barclay's Premier League.
