A father in Pennsylvania was charged with involuntary manslaughter after his two children died when a dresser fell on them and he did not respond immediately as he heard the crash.
Prosecutors charged David Beatty, 28, of Aliquippa for failing to respond to a crash he heard from another room and didn't quickly check if the toddlers were safe and okay.

Beatty was charged with two counts, one for the death of his two-year-old Brooklyn and one for 3-year-old Ryeley's death. Police records showed that Brooklyn died right after the dresser fell on her on July 4 while Ryeley was pronounced dead two days later in a Pittsburgh hospital.
Anthony Berosh, Beaver County District Attorney, said he approved the charge because the father, who was then babysitting the toddlers, admitted that he responded 10-15 minutes later after hearing the the crash as he was in the toilet.
Autopsies conducted on the toddlers showed that the 124-pound dresser prevented them from breathing.
The forensic pathologist said that had Beatty responded immediately to the crash he heard, the two children would have been alive today sustaining only minor injuries.
Beatty reportedly gave different accounts to the police, first saying that he immediately checked the room where the girls were "within seconds" of hearing the crash, but later admitted that it took him 10-15 minutes to check on the girls as he was in the toilet.
He added that he was used to hearing crash sounds everytime the toddlers played and that he thought the crash was just one of those usual noises the children made while playing.
Beatty and his wife, Jennifer, 28 were also slapped with two counts each of "endangering the welfare of the children" for the "deplorable" condition of their home. Police reported that their home was littered with human and animal waste on the floor, walls and bed.
The couple has been arraigned and was released on bond. The preliminary hearing was set on July 31.
