Sports Columnist and commentator who has held several roles in ESPN is all set to end his 15 year relationship with the channel, as ESPN President announced that his contract will not be renewed!

In a shocking move, ESPN has decided to move on without the hugely popular Bill Simmons. As a sports channel, ESPN owns a large part of its identity to the efforts invested by Simmons. During his fifteen years career with the channel, Simmons successfully performed the responsibilities related to several roles including sports columnist, editor-in-chief and a lot more. Though the announcement was made public on Friday morning itself, Simmons chose not to react to the situation in any manner. Ignoring the repeated requests to give comments or respond to the queries of his massive number of Twitter followers, Simmons has preferred to maintain his silence. An official from ESPN on condition of anonymity also went on to add that the discussion had been going on for a long time and surprisingly Skipper made the announcement public before calling up Simmons and letting him know.

What's even more surprising is that the contract with Bill Simmons will end in September, this year. But, ESPN President was proactive enough to announce the splitting four months before the actual date. Why? This is a puzzle that a lot of sports enthusiasts are keen to figure out.

According to a report on Time, Simmons had the power to take sports to a greater number of audiences through his unique style making him a brand in itself. Considering his loyal fan following, he was indeed a valuable asset for ESPN and therefore the split comes as a shocker.
