Late Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng, well known for her romantic folk songs and ballads, is still well-remembered by the Chinese population for her exemplary talent in music, according to Xinhua News Agency.
A memorial hall was built for Teng in her hometown in Daming County, Hebei, where she spent her humble beginnings. A vast number of visitors came last May 8, paying homage on her 20th death anniversary.

Deng Zitao, the memorial hall caretaker, typically leaves his phone number outside the memorial hall for potential visitors. This provides an easy system for him to open the door once the visitors want to get inside. Deng also serves as a tour guide for the visitors and gives a brief history of the late Taiwanese singer.
Deng initially knew the late singer's music when his brother gave him a recorder to aid in his study of the English language. The first song he heard from Teng was 'Tian Mi Mi' or 'Sweet as Honey' in English translation. This song is also one of Teng's greatest hits during her rising singing career.
"She once mentioned at a concert that her hometown was in Daming of Hebei," said Deng, emphasizing that the singer was also born in Taiwan and authorities immediately wanted to investigate through the local government to find out more about where her father lived.
At the time, Daming County only had three Dengs in their population. Deng is spelled out as Teng in Taiwan. The authorities took more than six months to finally locate the village of Teng's ancestry.
Deng also elucidated that in the Cultural Revolution, no one dared to admit that they were in any way connected with Teresa Teng. Teng Shu, Teng's father, was raised by his two aunts and worked at a coal mine in Tangshan city. When Shu enlisted himself in the army, he was never heard of again, according to the village elders.
The memorial hall, located in downtown area cost more than 300,000 Yuan. It opened in 2011 with a wide display of the singer's personal items donated by her fans.
The memorial hall attracts more than 10,000 fans around the world.
