Google Lets You Pre-Register on Google Play Apps

(Photo : Google) Gamers now need to create a Gamers ID account to enjoy games on Google Play.

Google Play released a new feature that allows users to pre-register for apps and games on the store.

The setup is pretty easy. If there's an app or a game that you're interested in, but it's not out yet, all you have to do is tap on the little "pre-register" button for supported titles in Google Play. Once the game or app comes out, your Android device will receive a little notification that the item you're interested in is now available.

The only downside to the pre-registration feature, is it doesn’t tell you anything about when it’ll be released. Just that it’ll notify you when the app or game is available. It would be great to get a hard release date, although I’m sure developers can add that in the description if they wanted.

“Pre-register” feature means that apps and games can be uploaded to Google Play ahead of release and gauge users interests by having them pre-register. It’s another step Google is taking to get more people downloading more apps, as studies have shown us that not everyone downloads many apps or games at all on their smartphones, and that’s where a lot of the money is in mobile – besides ads.

However, it is not yeat clear which apps are available for the pre-registration treatment. Currently, the only available app that you can pre-register is the Terminator Genisys: Revolution game from Glu Mobile.

Google Play page has not yet released any statement as to when and which apps are good for the new feature.

Lastly, Google didn't confirm when they will roll out this treatment, if it's planning to, for other applications. It's unclear whether every app uploaded to Google Play be eligible for pre-release notifications, whether developers will have to do something in order to make their apps eligible, or whether Google itself is hand-picking apps for pre-release functionality or working out arrangements with specific developers behind the scenes.
