A tornado warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in the area late Sunday.

In Van, the tornado caused "heavy damage" according to Smith County Emergency Management Spokesman Keith Tate. Van is a city of 2,600 people around 73 miles east of Dallas.

"Damages range from completely destroyed homes, damaged homes, to trees and power lines down," said Chuck Allen, emergency management coordinator for Van Zandt County. "The initial response of emergency responders was to locate and identify any injured individuals."

Early Monday, emergency workers went door to door to search for more people who were injured because of the Texas tornado, added Allen. The injured were taken to area hospitals. He also said that about a third of the town has been damaged.

The Red Cross set up a shelter at the First Baptist Church in order to help emergency officials, as reported by CNN.

Meanwhile, another tornado struck Delmont, a small town in South Dakota, damaging approximately 20 buildings. The residents were asked to leave because of unsecured propane tanks. Kristi Turman, spokeswoman for the Department of Public Safety, said that there had been no serious injuries from the Texas storm; however, the town had no power, water, and telephones.

In Howard County, the Sheriff's Office confirmed two fatalities in the storm Sunday night in Nashville, Arkansas, as reported by KSLA.

According to Howard County Sheriff Brian McJunkins, the Texas tornado victims lived in adjoining mobile homes near R&J Supply in the 1,000th block of W. Sypert Street. He added that two more are critically injured from the storm.

Homes in the area were also reported as heavily damaged, if not destroyed. Power outages were reported as well.

As of the moment, emergency responders are still assessing the situation and the amount of damage the Texas tornadoes have caused.

Meanwhile, up to 50 million Americans down the country's midsection are expecting a group of thunderstorms and severe weather on Monday, according to NBC News.
