According to several reports, the gunfire from the Newark shooting erupted in the city's South Ward as hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts assembled outside the Springfield Avenue clubhouse near the event sponsored by the Newark Knights motorcycle club to inaugurate the beginning of the motorcycle season, News 12 New Jersey reported.

The gunfire was heard as bikers performed tricks. Two people pulled out weapons and fired in the middle of thousands of people, witnesses told WABC-TV.

Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly said one person died at a hospital after the Newark shooting. Three others who were wounded were also taken to a nearby hospital and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses said that the person killed was a teenager; however, the police did not confirm, saying only that the victims were aged between 15 and 29, pending family notification.

The police believed that there was more than one gunman responsible for the Newark shooting, riding either ATVs or motorcycles

There was no immediate comment from Newark Police Department officials after a request for an official account of the Newark shooting incident. There was also no answer to a call to the Knights' clubhouse Sunday night, according to The New York Daily News.

So far, there have not been any arrests made. There is also no word on a motive for the deadly incident, as reported by CBS Local.
