Alternative rock singer, actress, and visual artist Courtney Love is being sued by a New York psychiatrist over unpaid bills worth US$48,250.

The Ukranian-born psychiatrist completed his residency in Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York where he was given the prestigious Resident Teacher of the Year Award. In his Linkedin profile, Dr. Ratush has put in "addiction psychiatrist" who deals with "opiate dependence and treatment-resistant depression" as his profession.
The said psychiatrist offers unconventional treatments like "trans-cranial magnetic stimulation," "spiritual interventions" as well as open to the possibility of working with LSD as treatment for addictive disorders.
In Psychology Today, the New York psychiatrist is decribed to be a specialist in mood disorders such as depression and mania, anxiety disorders such as panic attacks, PTSD, obsessive compulsive disorder, arousal disorders, fatigue, insomnia, adult ADHD, and shift work disorder.
Courtney Love struggled with substance abuse most of her life. In 1992, she lost custody of her newborn daughter for a while after it was revealed by a Vanity Fair magazine article that she had been using heroin while she was pregnant with Frances Bean Cobain.
However, Courtney Love denied this allegation.
When her husband, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994, Courtney Love's substance abuse seemed to have worsened. On her 40th birthday, July 9, 2004, she attempted suicide and was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was released later after spending two days at a rehab facility.
In 2005, Courtney Love was sent to a drug rehabilitation facility for six months in after being charged for a series of assaults and prescription drugs and cocaine use.
In 2011, Love said in an interview with the US Today show, that she has been off drugs and was sober.
Courtney Love has yet to comment on the lawsuit filed by the Ukrainian psyhiatrist against her.
