'My Love From The Stars' Star Kim Soo Hyun Returns With 'The Producers,’ Chinese Broadcast Rights Sold For Over $2 Million

"My Love from the Stars" star Kim Soo Hyun is returning to television, with a new 12-episode drama called "The Producers." The drama's broadcasting rights have been reportedly sold to a Chinese online platform for a whopping $ 2.4 million plus.
The terms of the agreement of the broadcasting rights have not been disclosed. A staff member associated with "The Producers," however, has confirmed the news that each episode has been sold for over $200,000, KPOP Herald reported.

Kim soo Hyun, 27, is one of the most popular Korean actors in China today, with a huge fan following because of his last television show "My Love from the Stars," which became a cult hit in China. Kim played the role of an alien on the show, which was aired on Korean broadcast channel SBS from December 2013 to January 2014. Shortly after, the show was aired on Chinese video streaming platforms, becoming one of the most viewed streaming shows on the Chinese online platform iQiyi. Later, Chinese producer Meng Jiang Wei bought the rights to edit the 21-episode "My Love from the Stars" and produce it into a two-hour feature film. The movie was released in summer 2014.
With "The Producers" starring Kim, who enjoys a mega-star status in China, the show has already generated quite a lot of interest on Chinese social media. In addition to Kim, "The Producers" also stars Gong Hyo-Jin, Cha Tae-hyun, and IU.
The show revolves around a fictional variety show department. Kim plays the role of a junior producer-director. "I tried to relax and feel less burdensome in this piece. Through 'The Producers,' I was able to act more naturally, like myself," the actor said at the recently held press conference of the show, as quoted by The Korea Times.
"The Producers" is scheduled to debut on Friday, May 15, on KBS.
