FOX Announces American Idol's Final Season

American Idol will soon be coming to an end. On Monday, network giant FOX announced that American Idol has been cancelled after 13 long years.

In a statement provided by the network, they confirmed the sad news and wrote, "American Idol will begin its 15th and final season this January on FOX."

The 15th season of the musical competition will feature judges country singer, Keith Urban, the multi-talented Jennifer Lopez and singer-actor Harry Connick, Jr. and of course, the show's long-time host, Ryan Seacrest, as they search for the last "American Idol" star, as well as pay tribute to the former contestants of the show and the fans who texted and made their idols champions.

Seacrest, 40, was the only constant in the show, whose line-up kept changing every now and then. He started as a host on American Idol way back in June of 2002 and went solo during the second season after co-host Brian Dunkleman was axed.

Seacrest, who is an executive producer of Keeping Up With the Kardashians on E!, first introduced the original judges, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson and went on to work with Kara DioGuardi, Steven Tyler, Ellen DeGeneres, Mariah Carey, Urban, Lopez, Nicki Minaj, and Connick, Jr.

Urban, Lopez and Connick Jr., have been the show's judges since American Idol's 13th season.

FOX's announcement comes just days before the show's 14th season finale. The cancellation is probably due to the show's decreasing ratings, especially over these past few weeks.

For this season, the last three contestants battling for the title of American Idol are Clark Beckham, Nick Fradiani, and Jax.

Former idols and contestants have experienced different successes, with the first Idol, Kelly Clarkson, still dominating music charts alongside later Idols, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barrino, and runner-upsJennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks and Clay Aiken.
