A new research said that including more nuts or oil to a Mediterranean diet, rich in fish, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish and low in red meat, may keep your brain sharper as you age.
Dr. Emilio Ros, director of lipid clinic at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, said that it has been proven that adults doing this sort of diet had more development in memory and are thinking than people who were just undergoing lower-fat-diet. It is said that with the help of healthy diet rich with high anti-oxidant power, like nuts and virgin olive oil, delays age-related mental decline.

According to CBS news, this is due to the standard age of respondents when the test started, in fact, it is never too late to modify your diet in order to keep or improve how your brain works.
A senior clinical nutritionist from New York University Medical Center Samantala Heller said that healthy fats from foods like olive oil and nut have important roles in health and brain function.
How does a Mediterranean diet using nuts and extra virgin olive oil help? First, it helps to protect cells in the brain, as explained by Heller, although she was not engaged in the study.
USAStar reported that each of the nerve cells in the human brain is covered with an ultra-thin layer of protein and fat called the myelin sheath. The myelin sheath defends the nerve structure and supports nerve cell interaction. The brain gets its fats to build and keep the myelin sheath from the foods people take. The healthier the fats and food, makes the brain healthier, Heller further explained.
One of the most significant fats in the myelin sheath is Oleic acid. This can be found in pecans, olive oil, avocados, almonds and peanuts. At the same time, Omega- 3 fatty acids are also valuable for brain health, which can be found in soy foods, walnuts and fish. These healthy fats have been proven to develop brain health, reduce the danger of Alzheimer's disease and improve mental function.
It is recommended to cook with olive oil rather than suing butter, snacking on handful of nuts than junk foods and more veggies on pasta instead of meatballs.
