After making her debut as an androgynous model in both men's and women's fashion runways in 2011, model Andrej Pejic has made her dreams of becoming a woman a reality. Pejic just revealed that she had the sex-reassignment surgery she's always wanted earlier this year.

Pejic, now called Andreja, hopes that by coming out with her surgery, gender and sexual orientation become non-issues.

She said that she has always been proud that her persona didn't conform with any gender roles. However, despite her success as an androgynous model, Pejic said that she still wasn't quite comfortable in her own body.

After some deliberation and apparent soul-searching, Pejic decided to be a woman.

Pejic said that even though her body has changed, she is still the same person - just older and more evolved.

Pejic wrote on her Facebook page that she is still the "same person, no difference at all just a different sex I hope you can all understand that."

She wants to live as a happy transgender woman who values the successes of her future, without alienating her past.

She refused to discuss some of her post-surgical details, stating "what's in between anyone's legs is not who they are."

Born in Serbia and raised in Australia, the model took hormones to block his development as a man when he was going through puberty. He had wanted to finish high school as a boy, but had always planned of transitioning after.

An agent discovered Pejic when she was only 17.

Two of her most notable projects to date were walking down the Gaultier runway in a bridal gown in 2011 and, bagging the cover of Elle magazine at the end of 2012.

After Pejic shot to fame, some popular transgender models that became known publicly includes Isis King, the first transwoman to compete on America's Next Top Model.
