IB Times reported that among the rumored roles of Freeman could be that of Everett Ross, a government liaison. Ross became Black Panther or T' Challa in the Marvel comics.

The writer of the comic book storyline, Mark Millar, hinted that it is likely Freeman will be playing as Everett Ross. Although, Millar added that Freeman would not be wearing any costume as he will not be a super-human. He further hinted that his role will be easy for viewers to identify once they see him on the film.

Most speculations in the supervillain/superhero arena takes on Freeman playing the role of Henry Gyrich, a U.S. Government representative who turns to the side of The Avengers as a bureaucratic thorn, particularly during the Civil War period. At the same time, it is possible that Freeman could be a new leaf as a hard character. Millar's "obvious" remarks imply that he could be offering diverse understanding of the possible awkward character.

Other speculations state that "The Hobbit" star will reprise his role in "Black Panther," as an interrogator in  "Captain America: Civil War."

According to Cinema Blend, Millar's tease that Freeman will not be wearing costume in "Captain America: Civil War," led film enthusiasts to think that he will play as the computer J.A.R.V.I.S. though, Tony Stark's loyal assistant was "turned off" by Ultron in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

Finally, another possibility is that Freeman could likely play the role of Norman Osborn. Since the new Spiderman will be in "Captain America: Civil War," then it will be understandable to have another character from his universe engaged.
