7.3 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Nepal While Facebook Donate Button Raises To $15 Million

More than two weeks after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake has struck Nepal, another earthquake has visited the country while Facebook donate button has raised more than $15 million.

According to Times of India, the 7.3 magnitude earthquake shook Nepal on Tuesday, on either side of Mount Everest. The U.S. Geological Survey stated that the 7.3 earthquake struck Nepal at around 12:50pm (local time) and its epicentre is at 18km from Kodari, which is close 80km east of Kathmandu and Tibet.

The preliminary report on Tuesday stated that the disaster has killed 15 in Bihar and 42 in Nepal. According to reports, the death toll will continue to rise as a massive destruction has been reported from the remote areas close to Tibet.

The Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said that they have received reports that there are 15 people who died while only six of which have been confirmed. Also, a massive devastation has been reported in different places, including Araria, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Supaul, East and West Champaran, Purnia, Sheohar, Patna and Siwan.

In addition, Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, the home ministry spokesperson of Nepal, said that a large-scale of destruction has taken place in Dolakha and Sindhupalchowk districts.

Reena Shrestha, a survivor of the earthquake said that the earthquake is "very scary" and her house at Teku in Kathmandu had started to develop more cracks and it is more "widened."

Furthermore, the Prime Minister of Nepal, Sushil Koirala told the media that people should be calm and face the calamity together.

Meanwhile, Facebook donate button for Nepal has raised more than $15 million from 754,000 people, cited Philanthropy.

Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg on Friday has expressed his appreciation for everyone who supported the cause. The social networking site has committed that they give of up to $2 million in matching funds, which brings the total contributions to $17.4 million.

The donations will go to International Medical Corps to deliver medical support, life-saving disaster relief and supplies to the affected areas in Nepal.

It should be noted that in April 25, Nepal has experienced a 7.8 magnitude earthquake and the epicentre is about 50 miles northwest of Kathmandu, wherein according to reports, about 8,034 people died.
