On A Diet? Dine With A Person Who Eat Less: Study

A new study revealed that the person's companion in eating can influence how much food the person consumes.

According to Times of India, if a person on a diet wants to lose weight, a person should dine with a light eater. A psychological effect in social modelling leads people to consume less food than what they normally eat, when their buddy only consumes a little amount of food.

Lenny Vartanian, an associate professor from the University of New South Wales school of psychology, said that people look to others to decide how much food they will consume. ABC added that Vartanian and his team had conducted a study to 40 cases to measure the impact of social modelling in food intake. The results of the study indicates that social factors has big influence on how people eat.

Vartanian added that when a companion eats a large amount of food, people have the choice to eat their normal intake; same goes if the companion eat less, the person also eat a small amount of food.

The said study is observed in different situations such as eating unhealthy and healthy snack foods, during meals and more.

According to reports, there are some studies which stated that even if a person has been deprived to take food for up to 24 hours, and given that their companion is a light eater, the said person will also eat less.

The said effect is common to women as compared to men, as women always think how people see or view them when they are eating. Men, on the other hand, also deals with social eating pressure. If a group of guys go out to eat, most of them eat large amount of food just to show that they can, according to Naras Lapsys a consultant dietician.
