Philadelphia Train Accident Leaves 5 Dead & Scores Injured As The New York Bound Train Derailed

Little did the commuters of the New York bound train expect the journey to be the most fatal ride of their life when they boarded the train from Washington D.C on Tuesday night. Looks like destiny had other plans, said reports.

It is said that trains are a crucial part of America's transport infrastructure and therefore authorities are known to follow quality tests and safety guidelines that help in optimizing the safety of the commuters. However, on Tuesday night, the Amtrak Regional 188 which was travelling from Washington DC to New York was derailed. The accident led to the death of five travellers who suffered critical injuries. The toll went up to six today as one more traveller admitted to the hospital succumbed to the injuries.

Apart from leading to the death of six people, the accident left several passengers heavily injured. According to NBCnews, the train was carrying 238 passengers when it derailed at approximately 9:30 pm ET. As per the eye witness account reported on the website, the accident happened exactly at the point where the train was turning into a curve; however, there have been no official reports regarding the cause of the accident. Nevertheless, there are several speculations already doing the rounds.

Meanwhile, Yahoo reported that rescuers were working round the clock combing through the wreckage of the train to look for people and get them the required medical assistance. The rescue operations are hopeful to locate more people as many of the 243 travellers are still missing.

There are also eye witness accounts that show the horror of the incident with people claiming to see all six cars of the train being thrown off the track.
