'Dancing with the Stars' Favorites Get Kicked Off

Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough being voted off came as a surprise to some of the "Dancing with the Stars" viewers. The result has sparked an outrage in the online community.
"Nastia Liukin absolutely deserved to be in the finals. No question about it...Noah's [Galloway] journey has been incredible to watch... but his dancing was simply not on the same level as anyone else's and it's unfair to him to say that it was. This is supposed to be a dancing competition, and in terms of dancing, Nastia hardly ever made a single misstep. Plus, simply in terms of scores, Nastia out-scored Noah every single week... Nastia comes away with 429 points out of 470 total, and Noah ends up with 378 points total," said E!'s Lauren Piester.

The 25-year-old Olympian has consistently done well during the competitions leading to last Tuesday's episode. For that leg of the competition, she, along with her partner five-time mirror ball champion Hough, performed the Viennese Waltz. They were mentored by the show's head judge Len Goodman. USA Today's Ann Oldenburg has cited several reasons as to why the gymnast and her partner had been voted off the show.
She thinks that the couple's being "too perfect" was one reason for their being eliminated. Oldenburg states that another reason that led to the elimination was Derek's injury. The mirrorball champion hurt both of his feet, which meant that Liukin had to be with a new dancing partner. "She's such a pro that it seemed seamless as she took to the floor with Sasha Farber, but it might have cost her votes," said Oldenburg.
The results of competition are based on the combination of two factors: the judges' scores and the audience's votes. The finals of "Dancing with the Stars" will be aired next Monday on ABC at 9 PM.
