The movie is supposed to be set to a similar premise as the original cartoon, with the Lead character Jerrica Benton the teenager being played by Peeples. The trail shows Benton to be introvert who thinks she is no different than anybody and views her life to be uneventful.

She hopes and wishes that she can be somebody else, somebody that is the opposite of her but much like in most teen flicks, a YouTube video of her and her family performing a musical number goes viral and catapults her gang "The Holograms" into stardom. Then a large music label sings the band and they were given a makeover, according to Polygon.

Peeples, in a recent interview with E! News, highlighted that the movie will have plenty of pink and that no one will be disappointed with the fashion or the makeup of the gang. She says that each stage number that she performs captures her in different makeup and outfits and that she could have recognize her own self in each of these performances. The story features the good, the bad and the ugly sides of stardom. The movie is all set for a December 2015 release worldwide.
