Superhero movie "Avengers: Age of Ultron" left thousands of Chinese fans frustrated, not because of the main plot or winding story arcs, but for the confusing subtitles.

"Literal" is what The Hollywood Reporter called the subtitles provided in cinemas around China, citing some examples in scenes of Captain America,  translating the line "You get hurt, hurt 'em back. You get killed . . . walk it off" into Chinese as "Run fast if someone tries to kill you." Others are shocking mistakes, such as translating the curse words "son of a bitch" into "my old, familiar partner," causing some moviegoers to walk out on the MARVEL franchise sequel.

This is not an isolated case. MARVEL has been a victim of butchered translations before, including the critically acclaimed surprise hit "Guardians of the Galaxy," which The Guardian reported as being released as "Interplanetary Unusual Attacking Team." The blame for "Guardians" went to a translator named Jia Xiuyan, who was mentored by the man responsible for the subtitles of the "Avengers" sequel, Liu Dayong. The literal translator also worked on the subtitles for other epic movies such as "Titanic," "Avatar," and "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies."

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" continues the story of the heroes Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, and Hakweye, in their attempt to save the world from robots created by Ultron, an invention by Tony Stark. In the process, they meet new Avengers Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, twins who have been experimented on by scientists in an island.

Despite the subtitle mishap, the "Avengers" sequel still opened at the top of China's movie industry, grossing 210.05 Yuan or $33.9 million. This was considered as a milestone for Disney, as Deadline reported that  they have surpassed the $2 billion mark for the 14th consecutive year in a row. The battle is not over though, as more movies will be released by the House of Mouse over 2015, such as "Tomorrowland" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Hopefully, this increase in revenue will continue even after big-time contenders such as "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Pitch Perfect 2" enter theaters.
