Sally Beauty Data Breach: Hackers Accessed Thousands Of Credit, Debit Card Payment Details

Sally Beauty Holdings has verified that their payment systems were breached by hackers and stole customer card data. A year ago, the said company has suffered the same breach.
The firm made an investigation a few weeks ago after getting reports of abnormal activity engaging payment cards used at some of its branches. Now, since it has enough evidence to verify a breach, the firm did not comment on the intrusion's scope until the forensic examination is done.

The shares of Sally Beauty fell almost five percent last month.
On the other hand, it can be noted that Target Corp and Home Depot Inc. also experienced large-scale breaches for two months in March 2014, wherein it risked the debit and credit card accounts of thousands of their consumers.
Mainews Online reported that Sally Beauty is one of the biggest retailers of beauty products in the United States and has more than 4,500 stores. In March 2014, the firm said hacker robbed almost 25,000 customer data with payment card information. Based on the firm's yearly report, hackers were able to install malware on some of its sales system and got "track 2" card details, which means one of the information tracks input on a card's magnetic stripe - the expiration date and the card number - was cloned by criminals.
"There can be no assurances that we will not suffer another cyber-attack or data security breach in the future and, if we do, whether our physical, technical and procedural safeguards will adequately protect us against such attacks and breaches," the Sally Beauty representative said in its report, from Insurance Journal.
The breach of point-of-sale systems with memory-gathering malware has led to some of the biggest card hacks over the couple of years. The method was utilized to rob 56 million payment card details from last year's Home Depot and 40 million from 2013's Target.
