Despite rumors popping up last week on Charlize Theron and Sean Penn's engagement, the couple will not yet be heading to the altar anytime soon. 

The rumors started when Theron was spotted with a ring on her engagement finger as she arrived at the Los Angeles International Airport last July 23. With a shiny new bling on her left ring finger, a recent round of speculation had went off about Penn popping the question.

Theron had been wearing an 18-karat yellow gold Anita Ko Leaf Ring, retailing for $4,900. The ring was bought by the actress herself and did not come from Penn. 

The actress had already talked about she and Penn went from being friends to lovers. Opening up to Vogue for its May issue, she said, "A friend kind of stepped into that [romantic] role, and I really didn't see it coming. We were just really good friends. And it's been slow going because you are aware that you could screw that up and lose it. We had to think about it. But at the end of the day, it was somewhat effortless."

Other reports have claimed that plans for a wedding celebration and adoption for a new kid for Theron's 2-year-old son Jackson are being brewed. 
Romance blossomed quickly for Penn, 53, and Theron, 38, who became a couple toward the end of 2013. 

They were first seen as a romantic pair in January while on vacay in Hawaii. They have also been spotted arm-in-arm in a couple of events, such as the premiere of Theron's A Million Ways to Die in West L.A., the Met Gala, and an Oscars after-party hosted by Penn's ex-wife Madonna.

"Sean is revitalized with Charlize," a source claimed. "They want to get married very soon." 

If the plans push through, this would be the first marriage for Theron and the third for Penn. 

The Mad Max: Fury Road actress has never been married. Penn previously tied the knot with Madonna in the 1980s but got divorced in 1989. After being married to Robin Wright for 14 years, Penn and Wright finalized their divorce in 2010.
