A man clad in a Spiderman costume was arrested Saturday after punching a police officer on West 42nd Street and Broadway in New York City.

The masked street performer, 25-year old Junior Bishop, was arraigned Sunday after punching Officer Eduardo Molina. Molina reportedly confronted Bishop about aggressively panhandling in the area.

Bystanders managed to capture the incident on video.

A policer officer stated that Bishop was going around Times Square, asking people to take photos with him for a tip of $5 per person.

One woman only offered $1, which Bishop refused, saying that he only took "fives, 10s or 20s".

Molina, a fairly new recruit of the New York Police Department, overheard the conversation between Bishop and the tourist and consequently told the woman that she could give Bishop any amount as a donation.

The Spiderman wannabe began yelling and cursing at Molina, which then prompted the officer to ask for an ID from Bishop. When Bishop couldn't produce any identification, Molina told the street performer he was under arrest.

It was when Molina attempted to place the handcuffs on Bishop that the perpetrator reportedly broke free and punched the officer in the face, leaving him with a swollen eye and facial lacerations.

Other officers quickly arrived at the scene and placed Bishop under arrest.

Bishop was charged with assault of an officer, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

However, this is not the first time he has had charges filed against him.

On April 2, Bishop was charged with possession of a weapon after he was caught soliciting photos with tourists while carrying a knife.

Recently, Bishop also used a knife to frighten a woman seated beside him on an A train at Rockaway Boulevard. He punched her several times as she tried to run away, and when the train stopped at Broadway Junction, Bishop waved the knife at police officers who tried to arrest him.

Due to his previous misconduct and arrests, Judge Ruth Pickholz set bail at $3,500.

The incident comes at a time when police are clamping down on aggressive panhandlers in Times Square, who are now becoming a growing nuisance to tourists.

Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance, said Bishop's arrest only confirms that panhandlers should be required to carry a license and visible identification at all times.
