According to China's most influential sports newspapers "Sports Weekly", Chinese Football Association will shell out 6.45 million euros (51.5 million yuan) to former Chinese national team coach Jose Antonio Camacho and his team for ending his three-year contract 18 months early. That is a year-and-a-half's salary (from July 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014). Camacho took over from previous head coach Gao Hongbo in August 2011, signing a three-year contract for a reported US$8 million a year. Besides the above-mentioned salary, the Chinese Football Association is also facing a hefty income tax bill of 25 million yuan for the severance payments, which is equivalent to 18 months' salary. So the total amount will be 76.5 million yuan. However, official government hasn't confirmed the news.
76.5 million! What an exorbitant price! Thousands of netizens questioned the ridiculous compensation. Netizen "chris" commented: "How come taxpayers' money is not money? Come on, who can supervise them? The way to terminate the contract with Camacho is so weird." Another netizen "Bobsea" said: "it is all Chinese Football Association's fault! They took taxpayers' money and abuse the money. Maybe the officials can receive a kickback from the compensation." Former Chinese Women's National Football Team captain Liu Ailing wrote on her micro blog: "Why doesn't CFA take the money to develop football training for young people? Who signed the contract? The person should be shot to death. "
