Jay Chou, Sued By Zhejiang Hotel For Unpaid Bill

Singer Jay Chou along with lyricist and good friend Vincent Fang were allegedly sued by a Zhejiang otel for not footing the bill of 98,000 RMB (roughly $15,800), according to Stomp Strait Times.

The hotel filed charges after they were not financially compensated after accommodating Chou and Fang, along with their dining expenses.

The lawsuit was filed against Fang's production company in the Jiashan County People's court. The hotel is also demanding financial compensation of more than 98,000 RMB, along with the interest accumulated within the year.

The hotel, named Yanyu Jiangnan, was specifically located in Xitang, an ancient town in Jiashang County in China. Chou and Fang spent time at the hotel while filming the music video "Passer-by" in 2014.

The hotel claimed that Chou and Fang were 'freeloaders' at the hotel at the time of the music video shoot.

JVR Music, Chou's agency, released a statement elucidating that Chou was not involved with any form of payment since he was just there to film his music video. Chou was not even informed with the terms and conditions of the accommodation.

Beijing Fang Dao Wen Shan Liu Cultural Media Co. Ltd, was the company in charge of Chou and Fang's accommodation at the hotel and not the singer. Chou bears no connection to the company and is not even a stockholder.

JVR Music further added that Chou was invited by the Xitang Tourism Bureau to film his music video there as a means of promoting the city. The city's ancient structures can be seen and this serves as a good medium of advertising among the audience, both young and old.

The Tourism Bureau was supposedly the one held liable for the accommodation of the crew.

Chou's representative emphasized that the hotel breached their agreement of maintaining privacy for the singer, causing the filming to be prolonged at that time. The singer's camp demanded a public apology and wants to remove all the pictures leaked all over the internet, according to Asia One.

"They're big stars. People want to watch. Some people put up the photos and they were quickly circulated," said Mr. Li, the hotel manager.

Li further added that none of the staff released any footage during their stay at the hotel.

Beijing Fang Dao Wen Shan Liu Cultural Media Co. Ltd and Xitang Tourism Bureau are currently negotiating with the hotel to resolve the issue.
