On May 17, the Chinese badminton team swept their Japanese rivals 3-0, effectively scoring their sixth consecutive Sudirman Cup and their 10th in all.
In the Men's Single match, Chinese legend Lin Dan beat his opponent Takuma Ueda with a score of 21-15, 21-13. Lin told reporters how he felt proud that his win helped the Chinese team take over the Surdiman Cup for the sixth time in a row. Nevertheless, the 31-year-old player admitted to feeling nervous when he came to the match. He said while he was confident about defeating Ueda, he felt some nerve and pressure get to him at some point.

Li Xuerui initially exchanged leads with her Women's Single opponent, Akane Yamaguchi, throughout the first game. However, she ultimately bested Yamaguchi as the match ended with a score of 23-21, 21-14. "Because it's a big contest, I felt pressure," Li told reporters. "The reason why the score was so close in the first game was because I made a few mistakes."
The final win that solidified China's 10th overall Sudirman Cup was from the Men's Doubles. Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan fought a close battle against Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa but nevertheless ended up the victors, with a final score of 21-17, 20-22, 21-17.
Thousands of fans welcomed team China with booming horns and drums as they entered the match. While the still-inexperienced Japanese team played with vigor and dedication, exhaustion took its toll on them, allowing the Chinese team to take the crown.
By the time the Japanese team completed their 2-3 semi-final win against South Korea, it was well past midnight. When the championship match began, China clearly had a fresher start.
Of the Sudirman Cup's many supporters, Indonesian politician Gita Wirjawan was one of the first to express his support and congratulations to the Chinese team. In a Twitter post, he said, "Congrats China for the 10th Sudirman Cup title. To the Indonesian team, travel home safe!"
