The U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who arrived in Beijing on May 17 for a visit, has said he urged that China through Foreign Minister Wang to take action to reduce the tensions and "increase prospects of a diplomatic solution."
Kerry added that he thinks that "the region needs smart diplomacy in order to conclude a China-ASEAN code of conduct and not outposts and military strips." However, Wang said that the determination of the government of China to its territorial and sovereignty integrity is "unshakable."
He stated that construction activities such as turning submerged reefs into isles is part of the Chinese sovereignty. Wang added that they will have a greater dialogue with the ASEAN members and the U.S. to raise the concern.
Furthermore, at the press conference, Kerry has not addressed a question about the plans of the U.S. to send vessels and planes though Singapore-based analyst Li Mingjiang believes that the U.S. will send warships and planes as a pre-emptive move to stop the government of China.
China claims of about 90 percent of the South China Sea that is claimed in part of the Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines and Vietnam.
Moreover, the meeting yesterday also discussed different issues including Iran and the nuclear programme of North Korea, as well as the United Nations climate change conference, which is scheduled in December in Paris.
The China and the United States are discussing further sanctions on North Korea as it has "not even come close" to take steps to restrain its nuclear weapons programme, cited Times Of India.
Kerry said that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), with its recent provocations, revealed that they are not "close to meeting" the standard.
