(Photo : REUTERS/Tyrone Siu) South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun waves to his fans during a promotional event for the Korean cosmetic brand Beyond in Hong Kong April 22, 2014.
The second episode of "The Producers" does not make things better for any of the character. And for rookie PD Baek Seung-chan (Kim Soo-hyun), the second day turns out to be a bigger disaster than his first day in the variety division. This little lamb continues to be lost in the woods, mainly due to his ineptness and inexperience. With two seniors plotting to kill him, the silver lining would take some time to appear in his dark clouds.

The episode reveals that the two senior PDs Tak Ye-jin (Gong Hyo-Jin) and Ra Joon-mo (Cha Tae-hyun) are childhood friends. Ye-Jin and her little brother have moved into Joon-mo's house because the former's new apartment is not yet ready and the old apartment had given her the eviction notice. The apartment originally belonged to Ye-Jin's parents and by stroke of luck, IMF and money, Joon-mo's mother bought it from Ye-Jin's parents. Joon-mo does not remember -- as he was drunk at the time -- when he signed on a tissue paper contract, allowing Ye-Jin to move into his apartment as a free boarder.
The two friends are dealing with their own insecurities and failures, and Seung-chan, unwittingly, has become the new thorn of their lives and their common enemy. Ye-Jin sees Seung-chan as the enemy because of the huge repair bill that she will have to pay to fix the dent on his father's imported car. Joon-mo makes Seung-chan the messenger of bad news and when he does not deliver the bad news as expected, resulting in an uncomfortable situation, he bans him from speaking to him.
The focus of "The Producers" episode 2 is on Joon-mo team figuring out how to tell the four actresses that they have been fired and new actors will be cast for a revamped "1 Night 2 Days." Seung-chan gets assigned to Joon-mo's team and soon after, he is crowned the messenger and is asked to deliver the bad news to veteran actress Yoon Yeo-jung, as no one wants to do that. The rookie mumbles and the actress does not get what he wants to say. She concludes that the team wants her not to quit. At the show's farewell party, Yeo-jung finds herself in an embarrassing situation because of her wrong deduction. Joon-mo blames Seung-chan for the awkward, unpleasant situation. After a work day that he would like to erase from his memory, Seung-chang discovers, to his horror and shock, that the two PDs live under the same roof.
"The Producers" characters are not infallible and they cannot be tagged as good or bad. Take for example Seung-chan, he has given us enough glimpses that he has a wicked side that likes to take revenge. Joon-mo cannot be called the cruel boss, as he has shown that he cares about his subordinates, but he is someone who probably shies away from taking responsibility. And Ye-jin is pretending to be in control of everything but scratch the surface and she will emerge as an insecure woman, with money worries.
