Giving more details, the report said that the six officers were part of the rescue team given the charge of removing people from hard to reach areas of Nepal. During one such mission, when the crew's helicopter was flying over the rugged terrain located about 8 miles North from Charikot, their helicopter crashed killing all of them. Amongst those dead, were two Nepali officers accompanying the rescue team on their mission to evacuate casualties.

According to LA times, the marines who died belonged to different regions of America. This report also points out that these marines were very close to their families. The crew was flying the rescue mission soon after the massive 7.3 magnitude aftershock jolted the region on Tuesday. While trying to reach the far off places, the helicopter crashed; however, the bodies of the deceased were recovered a long time after the crash, which clearly indicates that they were in places that were very difficult to reach.

Nepali army was applauded for their support and contribution to the intense search to locate the bodies of the deceased soldiers and saluted the heroes who lost their lives while trying to help others.
