Study: Ocean Microbes, Sea Breeze, Mist Also Influence The Atmosphere

It was found in a recent study that ocean microbes can also influence the atmosphere. This study can totally change the way that climate models are interpreted and studied as the entire climatic change study will be looked in a different way after this revelation.

The cool mist and soothing breeze which people normally witness near a sea shore is also a very important factor in determining the climatic changes and its impact on the atmosphere, states The Tech Times. The mist which is present in the air can manipulate how the sunlight is reflected in the water and can also manipulate the entire mechanism of cloud formation. Thus the mist has a direct correaltion with the monsoons.

The microbes, which are present inside the ocean, can also play an important role in these mechanisms as they can easily alter the chemistry of water before it gets evaporated and goes on to form clouds, states Syndicated News Headlines.

According to this study, when organisms like photo plankton are broken down with the presence of the bacteria, the process releases a large amount of proteins, along with other chemicals like sugar and fats. These tiny by-products will then get released in the atmosphere in the form of mist.

The researchers created a photo plankton in the lab with the help of a wave machine, after collecting 3,500 gallons of water in it from the California coast. It was found out that the microbes in the water were capable of altering the chemistry of the mist which was sent in to the air. Lipids were found to play a heavier role in the formation of mist than the other materials combined.

Since oceans cover more than 70 percent of the Earth's surface, this study is acting like a breakthrough in changing the standards of climate change study and researches.
