Sony is marketing a new entry-level TV set that's well, not what you'd expect.
The Japanese multinational electronic corporation recently launched the KDL-32R420B that retails for US$329.99.
While affordable, the model's features aren't remarkable and it doesn't stand out. The look of Sony KDL-32R420B is functional.

It's chassis is the usual cookie-cutter plastic while its triangular stand is impressively simple. The remote control is just like any plain RC back in the '90s.
The black level in its picture is the biggest problem with the KDL-32R420B. It's far too bright for its own good and doesn't create deep and rich shadows on the images.
Viewers can notice the absence of details right away. Some images look flat when they should be showing shadows.
The screen display is only 720p and that's the reason for the absence of details. This isn't unusual for entry level TV sets.
There are some good points to take into consideration, however. The model's color performance is good enough for normal and contented viewers but it's still not flawless.
When viewers watch a nature documentary, they'll notice that the blues are oversaturated. Bodies of water seem cartoonish.
Overall, Sony didn't do a great job on the set. It's only good for a dorm room or a guest room.
