With the success that "Pitch Perfect 2" is receiving, stars of the blockbuster movie are sure to feel the heat from critics and naysayers alike. With allegations of falsifying her age, Rebel Wilson is one of those currently under fire.
The Australian native has been reportedly lying about her age and her name. Fox News reported that instead of her registered youthful age of 29, she is older by seven years. Not only that, she is apparently lying about her name as well; from the spunky name Rebel Wilson, her real name is reportedly Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, a former classmate recounted.

Funny thing is that Rebel Wilson is neither denying nor confirming anything. Aside from the hilarious reactions she tweeted, Huffington Post reported that the "Pitch Perfect 2" star has already mentioned in a previous interview that she does carry the names Melanie Elizabeth in her birth certificate, and in some business records from the Australian Securities and Investment Commission, "Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson" is aged 35 years old.
This is not the first time a Hollywood actor has used a different name to rise above the ranks of an extra and became a star. In fact, The Guardian listed down a bevy of classic Hollywood actors and actresses who not only changed their names but changed a lot more: Margarita Cansino transformed into Rita Hayworth at the expense of her natural hair color; Natalia Zacharenko probably would never become the darling that was Natalie Wood if she did not rename herself; and Mae West, for all the years that she was active, has kept her age neutrally ambiguous.
It is funny how even though this has been a long-standing tradition in Hollywood, people tend to forget that it is all part of show business. Good thing for Rebel Wilson is that she knows how to roll with the punches, and that alone means she is going to go far not just as a star but as a well-loved individual.
