Will Disney's 'Tomorrowland' Overthrow 'Pitch Perfect 2’ From The Top Spot?

"Tomorrowland" will soon be out on theaters, but will its Disney powers work well against the unintentional blockbuster juggernaut that is "Pitch Perfect 2"?

There are quite a number of reasons as to why this Disney original can snatch the top position from the 2012 sequel. One important factor is that the movie puts the focus on the artists, the scholars, and the dreamers. Cinema Blend stated that in a world where the current norm is a dystopian post-apocalyptic future, "Tomorrowland" calls for a new type of looking forward.

The movie also points out that in the age of superhero movies, reboots, and sequels, this Disney original is a breath of fresh air, with the hope of injecting some creativity into the minds of their viewers, both young and old.

"Tomorrowland" is a long-time staple in the Disneyland franchise of amusement parks. From opening in 1955 with only a few sets of attractions including a couple of rides, IB Times reported that it has blossomed into the space-themed spectacle that it is today.

Originally made to emulate the look of the 1964 World's Fair, it has now transformed into having a futuristic ambiance. The movie is based on this concept, just as the original "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie was based on the ride of the same name. In that sense, Disney is hoping to tap into the nostalgic nerve of the same people who enjoyed their Tomorrowland rides in different Disneyland locations as well as the family market.

If "Tomorrowland" does come up on top after this weekend, it can be seen as a revenge against the a capella movie since it took down MARVEL's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" from the top spot, which is also a Disney studio. However, "Tomorrowland" will have a fierce competitor in the form of a horror movie reboot, as Deadline confirmed that "Poltergeist" will also be released by Fox this weekend. So come weekend, cinemagoers are definitely in for a treat.
