NBA News: LeBron James Breaking Records In Game 3 Of East Finals

It was an historic night for LeBron James.

Apart from leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 3-0 lead against the visiting Atlanta Hawks in the NBA's Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday night, James broke a couple of records along the way as well, as reported by Jamie Cooper of Dime Mag's UpRoxx.

First, it was Karl Malone's record. After a 0-for-10 shooting start, which was the worst in his entire career, he went 14-for-27 the rest of the way to score 37 points and pass The Mail Man as the sixth NBA all-time playoffs leading scorer.

Malone had 4,761 postseason points, while James now has 4,782. Next on his sights would be Spurs 39-year-old legend Tim Duncan with 5,113 points so far.

Second to be breached was Jason Kidd's career playoff triple-doubles of 11, as per The Score's Blake Murphy. Kidd was second all-time in that department behind Lakers icon Magic Johnson's 30. After tallying 37 points, a beastly 18 rebounds, and 13 dimes on Sunday, James moved past Kidd with 12 career triple-doubles in the playoffs.

The last time the King recorded a triple-double in the postseason was when he was still with the Miami Heat in June 2013, during Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. The Heat went on to win the championship that year.

His last playoff triple-double for the Cavs before this one was also his final game for the Cavs before moving to Miami: a Game 6 Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Boston Celtics.

The last record that he broke for the evening was Charles Barkley's long-standing record of 35-point, 15-rebound, and 10-assist triple-double showing in the 1993 Western Conference Finals against the then Shawn Kemp-led Seattle Supersonics. According to ESPN Stats & Info, James was the first player to achieve this stat line since Barkley did it in 1993.

With another out-of-this-world performance, no one can contest that the night belonged to the King.
