The U.S. Is Not Alone In The Border Crisis

Americans may have the most severe immigration problems, but they are not alone.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the number of recorded application for asylum have increased up to more than 700 percent in Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Belize in 2013.

Individuals applying for asylum come from the so-called Northern Triangle: The Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. These three countries are known to have the most violent communities in the world.
Migrants flee the Northern Triangle because they fear for their safety. The three countries are under tight control of street gangs and drug traffickers that rob, rape and extort ordinary citizens.
In the United States, a record-breaking influx of migrants have reached over 57,000 since October 2013, though a number of critics have claimed that if the border-crossers are escaping their home countries because of "credible fear," they would have sought refuge in safer countries such as Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Belize that are geographically nearer to the Northern Traingle.
However, and unknown to most Americans, these countries are already experiencing the same immigration problem that has divided the U.S. government.
Experts claim that the number of children migrating in countries other than the U.S. Studies showed that that the border crisis is not limited to Americans who fear the influx of migrants from other countries.
"This is a regional problem and one that requires a regional solution. It's too big for one government to solve in its own," Leslie Vélez, a senior protection officer for UNHCR, told Fox News Latino.
Though some of these countries, such as Panama and Costa Rica, could become possible economic and political safe havens for immigrants, problems arise for countries like Nicaragua and Costa Rica that lack policies and government agencies that could handle an immigration surge from other countries.
Nicaragua, on the other hand, is a much poorer country although it is seen as a less violent option to the Northern Triangle situati
on.
