A spokesperson of Microsoft said the that State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) has visited Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu offices.

The company declined to disclose any detail regarding the reason for the visits. However, media reports suggest that Microsoft may be facing a potential preliminary stage of anti-trust investigation.
A report in Dow Jones Newswires said that some employees of the company were questioned and confidential files on computers have been copied by the Chinese authorities.
However, Microsoft has not been publicly accused of wrongdoing.
The company aims to meet their customers' expectations by building features, as well as secured and reliable products, Joan Li of Microsoft China said on a statement in Monday.
Li added that they will "actively cooperate" with the government.
State media reported Microsoft as one of the companies that have been recently subjected to scrutiny.
Last week, Qualcomm was accused by a separate regulatory body that they had used monopolistic behavior in setting its licensing fees.
The country's National Development and Reform Commission was looking for pieces of evidence that the chipmaker had overcharged their customers and used its monopoly power.
Another technology company, Interdigital, has also faced the same investigation this year.
Microsoft has already been facing longtime challenges in China. The company said in May that it would still keep its efforts to gain approval for the release Windows 8 in China after Beijing banned the operating system for government use because of security concerns.
The software giant has also striven to connect with local companies in China despite the surfacing of security issues. Microsoft closed deals to develop technology with a local Chinese security vendor, Qihoo 360 Technology Co.
In addition, Microsoft and Tecent Holdings Ltd., another local Chinese firm, will also propose advance sales of its Xbox one consoles in the country.
