For the first time in Chinese history, the entire "Star Wars" saga, which includes episodes I through VI, will screen in China during the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival in June.
SIFF and Walt Disney Pictures made the joint announcement Monday.
Video and DVD of the three original "Star Wars" films have existed for years but had not been screened in the mainland's theaters. The joint announcement marks a first in Chinese film history, allowing moviegoers to watch the entire series on the big screen.

"Star Wars: Episode I -The Phantom Menace," "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones," and "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" will debut in Chinese theaters in June, along with the rest of the saga, which includes "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope," "Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back," and "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi."
The exact time of the screening has not been announced yet, but they are set to screen from June 13 to June 21, the duration of the festival.
The announcement was made ahead of the premiere of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the latest installment of the movie franchise, according to China Entertainment News.
SIFF organizers, who described "Star Wars" as "the greatest sci-fi masterpiece in film history," said that they are hoping to gain interest and discussion on the upcoming "Force Awakens" premiere after the screening of the old films, reported TIME.
"Force Awakens" already has two sequels planned. It will reportedly showcase the saga's previous cast, including Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford.
Meanwhile, while audiences worldwide are excited about the film, Director J. J. Abrams have kept mum about the other details of the film, reported The Daily Mail.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is set for release on December 18 in North America. As many are already thrilled about the upcoming film, it is also expected to become a hit in the Chinese film market.
