Reese Witherspoon is more than ready to wear her fairy wings, gather pixie dust, and fly off as the new Tinkerbell in the new upcoming Disney live action movie "Tink."

The star, well-known for her role as Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde," will soon spread fairy dust in a retelling of Peter Pan through the eyes of the well-loved fairy Tinker Bell, as reported by MSN Entertainment. It is made in the mold of Disney's earlier project "Maleficent," where a supporting character was made the star of the movie.

Tinker Bell originated as a non-speaking character during the first animated adaptation of J. M. Barrie's "Peter Pan," but it eventually become one of the well-known Disney icons. Prior to this, the fairy role has only been portrayed by Julia Roberts in "Hook" back in 1992.

Despite not having a director at the moment, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Victoria Strouse is already hard at work developing a script. Strouse is the person responsible for penning the script for the "Finding Nemo" sequel "Finding Dory."

The best thing about Reese portraying the fairy is that aside from the 1992 adaptation and the animated franchise that centers on Tink, NYLON observed that she is free to reinvent the character however she wants. Despite "Pan," the most recent adaptation of J.M. Barrie's novel, which will hit theaters this summer, the trailers have no word on Tinker Bell, giving Reese the freedom to make the character her own. What Angelina Jolie did was perfect as the titular character in Malefecient, and true to the formula, it seems like Reese as Tinker Bell is another perfect casting made by Disney.

Along with Bruna Papandrea, the "Hot Pursuit" actress will co-produce with their production company, Pacific Standard. Hopefully, in spite of the "in development" status of the movie, Disney execs greenlight the film, which not only will introduce a fan favorite to new audiences but will also reinvent her as a symbol of values for the future generations.
