After three months of being coach-less, The Los Angeles Lakers have finally confirmed that Byron Scott is their new head coach.

Scott, the seventh former Laker to become head coach of the franchise, will be introduced Tuesday at a news conference to be held at the Lakers' training complex.

Over the weekend, Scott, who as a player won three championship rings with LA during the Showtime era, reportedly agreed to coach the team next season.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak released a statement on Monday night welcoming Scott. "We're proud to welcome Byron back to the Lakers family as our next head coach," he said.

Scott has proven himself as a coach and a player in his almost 30 years of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Scott has long been considered by the Lakers for the head-coaching job after the team parted ways with Mike D'Antoni, who resigned in April after one of the worst seasons for LA.

Aside from his reputation as a three-time champion and his familiarity with the team, having worked as analyst at the Lakers television station, Scott is known to be close with Kobe Bryant, who was a rookie during the former's final season in 1996.

Bryant has been pretty open about wanting Scott to be the Lakers' next head coach. "We've had a tremendously close relationship throughout the years," said Bryant.

Scott has coached for four teams, calling the shots for Cleveland in 2010 just after LeBron James made his infamous "The Decision." The Cavs fired him after the shortened season in 2013.

A number of former Lakers stars will attend the conference to formally announce the 25th head coach of the franchise including fellow Showtime greats Kareem Abdul-Jabar, Magic Johnson and Jamaal Wilkes.
