(Photo : Reuters/Kacper Pempel) Boeing and the US Air Force have created a futuristic pulse weapon that remotely detects and eliminates electronic devices with high-powered pulses.
The U.S. Air Force pulse weapon is making waves across the tech and cyber security industries as a weapon that could change the way we look at cyber warfare.
The Air Force confirmed that it has been working with the Boeing Company on a weapon that uses pulses or high-powered energy to kill and destroy electronic systems. This weapon is called the Counter-electronics High-powered Microwave Advanced Missile Project or CHAMP.

In a CNN interview, representatives from the Air Force Research Laboratory and the multinational company Boeing said that the CHAMP was designed to target any and all electronics in a building without causing injury or collateral damage.
Air Force Research Laboratory CHAMP Lead Test Engineer Peter Finlay told CNN that although the weapon is not in the same level of technology shown in movies like Star Trek or Star Wars, it has "definitely" advanced the technology that the Air Force is currently using.
Boeing CHAMP Program Manager also chimed in, telling CNN that the project "makes science fiction a science fact."
Digital Trends reported that Commander Major General Tom Masiello from the Air Force Research Laboratory announced that CHAMP has already been deployed in their "tactical air force."
The report added that it is believed that only five CHAMP devices have been ordered by the Air Force but there is a possibility that the project will be expanded.
According to a press release posted on Boeing's website in September 22, 2011, the CHAMP had its first flight test on the same day at the Utah Test and Training Range.
Boeing noted that it received the $38 million contract for CHAMP in 2009. The three-year program included provisions for demonstrations in the ground and on flight.
"CHAMP is a nonlethal alternative to kinetic weapons that neutralizes electronic targets. It would allow the military to focus on these targets while minimizing or eliminating collateral damage," the statement said.
The second CHAMP test was announced on Oct. 22, 2012.
