Fastfood giant McDonald's has run low on beef and is offering fish burgers and chicken nuggets to customers, in the wake of the recent food scandal that rocked the burger chain's meat supplier in China.
Recently, Chinese health officials accused one of McDonald's food suppliers, Shanghai Husi Food Co., of supplying expired meat to restaurant companies.

McDonald's immediately cut its meat orders from the supplier, resulting to a meat shortage. Since then, the fastfood joint has been serving a limited menu, with sales clerks offering customers fish burgers.
McDonald's officials said outlets across China have been experiencing product shortage as it pulled out all its orders from the Husi Food company.
Shanghai Husi has also issued a statement saying that it has pulled out all its products from the market.
McDonald's said that it is currently sourcing its meat products from other existing suppliers, but this is not enough to fill the burger requirements of all its outlets. Mc Donald's has more than 2,000 outlets across China although officials are not divulging how many of these are affected by the food scandal.
McDonald's has reportedly taken aggressive actions, including a stepped-up ad campaign, to boost up its dwindling sales following the issue of food safety concerns.
In the meantime, social networking site Sina Weibo is abuzz on the issue of McDonald's limited menu. A netizen commented that this whole issue on food safety concerns is just one of the strategies of McDonald's to boost the sales of their signature items. Another one said that she feels grossed out after realizing that she had been eating expired meat at the joint.
McDonald's has not divulged how long the burger scare is going to last and how many of the outlets are affected.
Industry insiders said the slump in sales was not caused solely by the food scare, but other reasons have also been factored in, like the avian flu scare and the poor economy.
