James Sullivan, SH Rallycross team owner, said that their team decided this to support the racer's quest to win the Formula E championship.
Piquest Jr is a championship contender for the Formula E series and is in a four-way battle with three races left.
He explained in Newsday that Rally Cross will always be in his heart but he wants to try other challenges like competing in Formula E.
He said that despite his new venture on Formula racing, he'll still be thinking on the amazing jumps and the battles he experienced in Rally Cross.
Sullivan also said that allowing Picquet Jr. to miss the X Games would not have a bearing on his Rally Cross championship.
Piquet Jr. won a bronze medal last year in the X Games. He is the son of three time Formula one world champion Nelson Piquet.
NBC Sports explained that Andreas Bakkerud, Norwegian racer, would be replacing Picquet Jr. as a finalist for the X Games.
Bakkerud explained that this is a big opportunity for him and he's excited to step in for Picquet Jr. at the X Games.
Sullivan explained that decision to bring in Bakkerud wasn't hard for them. He explained that he's one of the few racers who know how to drive the 2015 spec car SH Rally Cross like the back of his hand.
Bakkerud is one of the most experienced Rally Cross drivers in the world and has won two times in the FIA European Rally Cross Championship in the Super 1600 division.
He is currently third in the championships standing of the FIA World Rally Cross Championship Super Car category.
