Google has confirmed that the maps app will be available in offline mode by the end of this year, which will also include turn-by-turn navigation facility without internet requirement.
Google is aggressively working on a plan to make the map app available to users even without a stable internet connection. The update will happen by the end of the year leading to a revolution in the way in which people will get to use the maps.

Even in its offline mode, the map will allow users to opt for turn-by-turn voice navigation. They will also be able to search for information about destinations like reviews, ratings and hours of operation, irrespective of the stability of their internet connection. According to reports on Mashable, Jen Fitzpatrick, vice President at Google, confirmed the news by making the announcement at the I/O developers conference on Thursday, last week.
This move is an endeavour by Google to improve the availability of apps in the third world countries like India and Bangladesh, where the technology giant enjoys a wide customer base; however, these customers have scarce access to stable internet connection. With this update, users will find it easier to pull out the maps even when they are in a zone which has poor or no internet connectivity. For example, even when users are travelling by plane, they will be able to check the maps and plan their on-ground travel even before they land.
On the other hand, The Next Digit points out that Google maps going offline will join the league of the YouTube offline option. As of now, the YouTube offline option is available in India, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. As per the statement quoted in this report, the company spokesperson said that the maps going offline will enable travellers to explore new places in a relatively easy way; however, as of now, there are several things regarding this app that are not yet clear. This includes the regions in which the app will be available plus how much data will Google be able to store in its offline option.
