Residents of Huludao City woke up to the sound of a loud explosion on Sunday morning that destroyed a three-storey residential building; killing two people and injuring many others.
According to Xinhua, the explosion, which reportedly occurred at 6:00a.m., was caused by a leakage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). However, this claim has been questioned in a report by Outlook, which reveals that "fuel is not used in the neighborhood."Local authorities are yet to reveal what exactly caused the explosion.

The heavy blast is reported to have led to the collapse of one part of a three-storey residential complex, according to CCTV News. The property reportedly housed about six families. Soon after the incident, residents thronged to see the collapsed building.
Rescue workers were able to successfully remove three people from the rubble. However, only one of them survived. The patient has reportedly been transferred to a medical facility for treatment. At least 10 other people were reportedly injured by the violent blast. It is currently unclear if all the people who stayed in the property have been accounted for.
The Golden Triangle continues to be a strategic business and cultural hub. This has attracted lots of companies and workers to Liaoning Province. According to a 2012 estimate, Liaoning is the 14th most populous province in the country; with a population of nearly 44 million people.
The latest explosion in Liaoning, which is alleged to have been caused by the leakage of LPG gas, follows a large explosion and a fire outbreak in the province in January that was directly traced to LPG gas. At least four people were injured in the explosion in Jinzhou District after a tank truck caught fire at a gas station, according to Xinhua. In another deadly fire-related incident in Liaoning this year, five hikers were killed in March after a fire outbreak engulfed the Dahei Mountain in Dalian. As many as 300 firefighters struggled for hours before the blaze was put under control.
