Will 'Entourage' Defeat The Rock's Blockbuster Hit 'San Andreas'?

The crew of "Entourage" is back with a vengeance and is bigger than ever. As the movie prepares to roll out this week, questions about the life span of the movie are being raised: will they top the blockbuster hit "San Andreas" when the movie hits the big screen?
Already slapped with an R rating, movie execs know that the flick will not beat summer blockbusters that it is poised to compete against. Aside from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's "San Andreas," "Entourage" will open the weekend with the horror sequel "Insidious: Chapter 3" and the Melissa McCarthy comedy "Spy." Deadline reported that out of the three movies, Entourage might end up in the lower bottom, but this does not necessarily mean a bad thing for the studios. The movie, which is based on the life of its executive producer Mark Wahlberg, has a strong following from males and females 25 years old and up.

The movie brings back the same cast from the original series--Adrian Grier as Vincent Chase, Kevin Connolly as E, Jerry Ferrara as Turtle, Kevin Dillon as Drama, and fan favorite Ari Gold as Jeremy Piven--as well as recurring characters and celebrity cameos, to revive the feel of the original series. In fact, Vanity Fair already called the movie obnoxiously fun, and the misogyny that weaves in and out of the movie is what gives "Entourage" its charm and charisma.
This charismatic misogyny might even be enough to give the movie the life it needs to survive in the silver screen. The Los Angeles Times recalled "Sex and the City," the first series HBO adapted on screen, and how it was a success because of its targeted audience of women viewers. "Entourage" carries the same appeal, albeit with manly men.
Although with everything, nothing is ever sure, and the fate of "Entourage" still lies after its opening weekend. The movie might not be able to topple "San Andreas" or beat its weekend competitors, but one thing is for certain: the boys had their fun, and the fans of the series will definitely enjoy seeing the crew of Queens riding that black convertible once again.
