Paramount Deletes Tweet About TMNT Poster, 9/11 Controversy Brought Up

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie is set to be released on September 11 this year in Australia but tweets about the poster caused negative hype. The poster has been taken down from the social networking site but mixed reactions about it have been tweeted.

The poster that was meant for the Australian release has caused controversy. The image was tweeted by @ParamountAU account. The image was captioned: "Check out the official poster for #TMNT in cinemas Spetember 11!"

The image was basically the mutant ninja turtles jumping off from a burning building. The words "September 11" were included in the poster and these were not taken well.

This has sparked negative comments from the Twitterverse. Reports say that the date does not mean anything to Australia as much as it means to America. Followers were really outraged about this and they called the tweet 'wildly inappropriate'.

A tweet says, "Who thought the poster would be a good idea considering the date? Or did they just think no one would notice or indeed care? #TMNT".

Another tweet has taken this issues lightly saying that the TMNT 9/11 poster did not offend him but it does raise some questions such as where were those turtles on the actual 9/11 morning.

The post was deleted hours after and another tweet from Tom Roache, leader of the publicity department of Paramount AU, has been issued.

In the statement, he said that they are deeply sorry to have used such artwork as a marketing material to promote the September 11 opening in their country. He adds that combining the date and the image was a mistake and it was not intended to offend anyone.

Roache ends the statement saying that they will be discontinuing the use of the poster.

The TMNT movie will open in the U.S. theatres by August 8, 2014.
